Art Heals. It only takes those two words to describe one of the most dynamic programs at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art (JSMA). The museum is a national leader among university-affiliated museums providing quality arts in healthcare programming. The JSMA’s passionate education team is working diligently to provide resources and workshops that inspire art creation, expression, and healing.
Art Heals includes various art programs that focus on arts and wellbeing. There are currently 10 robust programs that reach many different communities such as Latina mothers, cancer patients, adults with dementia and early onset Alzheimer’s, students with disabilities, and those working in the medical field. Our programs have expanded to a virtual format, and we are now able to provide them both in-person and remotely.
The core purpose of Art Heals programs is decompressing from participants’ struggles or crisis in their lives. Many of our participants often have no experience in creating art, and yet are able to create beautiful work that touches many of their fellow community members. These programs are generously supported by our donors, and you can see the impact of your gift in many ways, including:
- $25 will cover the cost of art activities in the studio for 10 students.
- $50 will cover the cost of one Art Heals workshop and supplies for an oncology patient or postpartum mother.
- $100 will cover the cost of one Art Heals workshop and supplies for 2 participants (oncology patient or other)
- $200 will cover the cost of one Art Heals workshop and supplies for 4 participants (oncology patient or other)
- $500 will provide two Art Heals Participants with a frame and mat for their artwork on display at JSMA from June 2023-February 2024.
These programs help the JSMA impact lives throughout Oregon. Help us further this fantastic work by donating today!
