The communication field is changing quickly, and many of the jobs our 2023 graduating class is applying for didn’t exist five years ago. At the UO School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC), we know we must teach students the skills they need to succeed—for the jobs of today and the emerging careers of the future.
Take gaming. It's now the biggest entertainment industry in the world—twice as big as the movie industry. Video games and esports generate billions of dollars annually, with audiences of all ages and full entertainment franchises. And media companies, advertising agencies, and even journalists are gamifying their campaigns and content to connect with their audiences.
Fortunately, games are proven grounds for great storytelling and engagement, making them a natural fit for SOJC students—many of whom are already passionate about this expanding field.
