Division of Equity and Inclusion
Help students from diverse communities gain leadership skills and experiences at home and abroad.

The Division of Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is a hub of information and a center for resources and expertise supporting equity, inclusion and diversity. Our efforts are guided by the I.D.E.A.L. framework: Inclusion, Diversity, Evaluation, Achievement, and Leadership.

Your support for Leadership Enrichment Internship (LEI) and scholarships for study abroad programs helps students from diverse and underserved communities gain skills and innovative experiences leading to success academically, professionally, and personally.

The Leadership Enrichment Internship (LEI) was established by DEI in 2016 through a generous private gift. LEI offers paid internships for undergraduate students with diverse academic interests whose backgrounds are currently underrepresented in specific careers. By participating in LEI, students:

  • Gain real-life experience in a professional workplace.
  • Receive mentorship and supervision from industry professionals.
  • Engage in professional and leadership development both on-site and outside of internship work.
  • Network with professionals in their target field and/or industry.
  • Meet other UO student interns and build community as a cohort.
  • Participate in individual and group discussions and reflections.
  • Gain clarity about their short- and long-term career goals.

Collaborative effort of campus and community

UO departments such as the Career Center and Holden Center provide enrichment opportunities focused on professional and leadership development, career advisement, and community building.

Campus and community partners who have provided internships and mentoring include:

  • Beyond Toxics
  • Bigfoot Beverages
  • City of Eugene
  • Eugene School District 4J
  • Eugene-Springfield NAACP
  • Habitat for Humanity of Central Lane
  • Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art
  • Mobility International USA
  • Northwest Indian Language Institute
  • Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon
  • Willamalane

Scholarships for historically underrepresented students to participate in study abroad programs offered by the UO.

The Diversity Excellence Scholars Abroad program provides $2,000 awards to individual students to help defray the costs of participating in a study abroad experience. Help the DESA program reach more students!

Study abroad offers unique learning and cross-cultural opportunities as students are immersed in other cultures in and out of classrooms.

Programs build cultural consciousness, critical thinking, and essential professional skills in our ever-growing multicultural society and globally-connected world.
