School of Music and Dance
Help Support a New Instrument

The UO School of Music & Dance is a community of scholars who learn, rehearse, and perform together. Students and faculty hold over 300 concerts and events every year, but it is not possible without your support!

Top-tier instruments for performance, rehearsal, and research provide an overall higher-quality experience. However, instruments are subject to travel and wear and tear due to continual playing. SOMD has two contrabassoons in its inventory and 12 bassoon students. One contrabassoon unfortunately needs to be completely rebuilt, which is not worth the cost given the age of the instrument. Of the woodwind instruments, the contrabassoon is the most expensive to replace.

The SOMD works to provide cutting-edge facilities, so their students can learn to lead lives enriched by the arts of music and dance. Bassoon player and SOMD supporter Charley Wright has offered to match gifts 1:1 up to $10,000. This gift will go towards the purchase of a new contrabassoon.

Help our students excel in their learning by ensuring high-quality instruments. Thank you!
