The Oregon Humanities Center (OHC) is the sole interdisciplinary umbrella organization for the humanities at the University of Oregon. The OHC seeks to promote and strengthen the humanities at the University of Oregon by supporting humanities research, teaching, and public programing.
Each year the OHC grants 3–4 Dissertation Fellowships to doctoral students pursuing degrees in the humanities. In addition to their studies and writing their dissertations, graduate students teach undergraduate classes. Many graduate students have additional family responsibilities. Dissertation Fellowships provide recipients with one term free from teaching in order to allow full-time work on the dissertation. This dedicated time and support is crucial to facilitate timely completion of the degree and expedite entry into the job market. Dissertation fellows finish their PhDs and enter the job market sooner than their peers who do not receive support. Ninety-two percent of former OHC Dissertation Fellows have found degree-related employment.
The OHC must rely on gifts and non-recurring funds to finance Dissertation Fellowships. We’re working to build the fund to one day be permanently endowed. In the meantime, any gifts are appreciated. Please help doctoral students complete their degrees. Give to the Oregon Humanities Center Dissertation Fellowship Fund. Thank you!
