Oregon Institute of Marine Biology
Support Oregon's Only Marine Biology Institute

Offering the only Marine Biology degree in the Pacific Northwest, the University of Oregon allows students to gain hands-on experience with marine organisms in their natural habitat. Marine biology majors spend three terms in residence at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology. In order to continue their work, the OIMB needs your support in funding a new research and teaching vessel.

The addition of this boat will replace an aging boat that does not meet current needs.  The vessel will be made locally in Charleston, Oregon by Tarheel Aluminum. It will be 48 feet long with 15 feet beam. It will be equipped with a cabin and dry lab in order to store electronics. Other features include a GPS, bottom-sounding SONAR, bow thruster, etc. With the new boat, students will be able to conduct research 50 miles offshore from the OIMB, an increase of 48 miles. The sampling depth will be rise to 2000 feet, an increase of 1800 feet. The improvements made to the new vessel will allow students to broaden their learning on a larger, safer scale.

Please support the only marine biology institute in Oregon! Your gift to the OIMB Research and Teaching Vessel will provide future generations with hands-on knowledge and critical coastal research.
