Vivian Olum Child Development Center
Building a Safe Place to Grow

Every day, our childcare center supports the families who make our university possible—students balancing coursework and parenting, faculty pursuing research, and staff who keep campus running. Their children spend their days learning, exploring, and building foundations for a lifetime of curiosity.

But our outdoor space needs an upgrade.

We are launching a campaign to create safe, fully enclosed play yard that will give children the freedom to run, climb, imagine, and explore while ensuring their safety. A secure outdoor play space is essential for high-quality early childhood education—it supports physical development, social learning, and the joy of being a child.

Our aging wood fence, Explorer sandbox and decking, and Dreamer playground rubber surfacing have all reached the end of their use-span. With their replacement, opportunities for new uses of space arise, and we will be combining the Pre-K and Preschool Play Yards into one larger space, with a new trike track.

This project will create a welcoming, secure play environment where children can grow while their parents learn, teach, and work just steps away. It will also strengthen our university’s commitment to supporting families and making campus a place where everyone can thrive.

Your support will help us build a space where our youngest community members can play safely, learn through exploration, and feel they belong on this campus too.
