Traveling to new places. Connecting with successful alumni. Covering real-world stories. Pushing personal and professional boundaries.
These are just a few of the life-changing events that SOJC students experience during our hands-on learning trips, which include:
Global Stories trips to places such as Cuba, Nepal, and Sri Lanka
Many of our graduates call these programs the most transformative experiences of their college career.
They also tell us that the connections they make on these trips, the portfolio pieces they produce, and the life lessons they learn help them launch their careers in journalism, advertising, public relations, and other communication professions.
Announcing Our New Experiential Learning Fund
Every SOJC student should get a chance to go on one of these experiential learning trips. But more than 90% can’t afford the $1,500–$8,000 it costs to go.
The SOJC wants to make these transformative experiences available to all our students, regardless of their ability to pay. That’s why we are launching the new SOJC Experiential Learning Fund.
How You Can Help
Give. When our community joins forces for a common cause, amazing things happen. That’s why our #DucksGive goal is not a dollar amount, but 175 donations of any amount. To help get us to this goal, several generous donors have pledged challenge gifts to encourage giving throughout the day.
Challenge 1: When we receive the first 10 donations, we will unlock a challenge gift of $250 from Brian Erb, BS ’85, for our new Experiential Learning Fund.
Challenge 2: When we receive the next 15 donations, we will unlock a challenge gift of $1,000 from Lisa and Neal Rosen, BS ’74, for our new Experiential Learning Fund.
Challenge 3: When we receive the next 20 donations, we will unlock a challenge gift of $2,500 from Brenda Bonnell and Mark Zusman, BS ’85, for our new Experiential Learning Fund.
Challenge 4: When we receive the next 20 donations, we will unlock a challenge gift of $2,500 from Terri and Jon Anderson for the Random Lengths Student Development Fund.
Challenge 5: When we receive the next 20 donations, we will unlock a challenge gift of $2,500 from Cameron Blanchard, BA ’91, for our new Experiential Learning Fund.
Challenge 6: For the next 30 donations, we will unlock a challenge gift of $5,000 from Sammi and Scott Bedbury, BS ’80, for the Bedbury Scholars Fund.
Challenge 7: For the next 30 donations, we will unlock an anonymous challenge gift of $10,000 for SOJC.
Challenge 8: When we reach our goal of 175 donations, we will unlock a challenge gift of $10,000 from Kari (BA ’93) and John (BA ’87) Boiler for The Boiler Family Fund for Experiential Learning.
