Make a profound difference for University of Oregon Dreamers—students with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) status and those whose presence in the U.S. is undocumented, by making a gift to our UO Dreamers Scholarship Fund.
Every year in Oregon, Dreamers transition from high school to college to continue learning and growing, enthusiastic to make an impact in their communities and to support their families through higher education. DACA and undocumented students, however, do not qualify for federal financial aid, and are ineligible for many other forms of financial aid, including most student loans. It is common for students to take a term off every year to work and raise money for tuition, or to work two to three part-time jobs while decreasing the number of classes they take.
Our Dreamers are hardworking, bright, determined Ducks, but on top of everyday challenges, many have been hit hard by the effects of COVID-19. Dreamer students have lost jobs, or their parents have. Goals of owning their own businesses, working in our communities, and supporting their families have been put on hold or seem out of reach.
You can be a part of reducing uncertainty and anxiety and helping our Dreamers to graduate. Join us today with a contribution to the Dreamers Scholarship. This scholarship provides important, transformational financial relief, allowing enrolled students progressing toward graduation to fulfill their goal of becoming Duck alumni. The Dreamers Scholarship focuses on intervening with larger awards at pivotal times in a Duck’s education.
Your thoughtful gift during Ducks Give will help us reach our goals and ensure more students have access to vital financial support.
The UO continues to commit to serving our Dreamer students and has trained over 400 Dreamer allies. Additional resources for Dreamers and their families can be found at our UO Dreamers webpage the or the UO Dreamers Working Group Blog. For more information about Dreamer allies, email the Dreamers Working Group.
