Help SOJC Students Become Sports Communicators

On July 15–24, the 2022 World Athletics Championships Oregon22—one of the biggest sporting events in the world—will take place at the University of Oregon. Hayward Field will become the epicenter of local, national, and global news media. With over 2,000 athletes from nearly every country in the world participating, the event will be broadcast to 200 countries with a global TV audience of over 1 billion people.

And we want School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC) students to get real-world experience covering the event and creating multimedia content packages that professional media from around the globe will use in their broadcasts.

This is the first time the World Athletics Championships are taking place in the United States. As the world’s media comes to Eugene for this historic moment, we want to offer our students the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to network with media professionals and have their work broadcast around the globe. We also want to build on this momentum by creating new courses and programs focused on sports media and strategy at the SOJC.

Donate to Support Students at Oregon22 and Beyond

With close access to the prestigious UO Ducks athletics brand and global events like the World Athletics Championships Oregon22, SOJC students get unparalleled access to real-world sports media and communication experiences.

But we need donor support to turn this access into opportunities that will make a huge difference in students’ careers.

When you give to the SOJC on #DucksGive Day, you’ll be helping our students:

  • Be part of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to gain on-the-ground experience covering one of the world’s largest sporting events
  • Create multimedia content packages for international media that will be broadcast on networks worldwide, and get paid for their work
  • Create animated opening titles for international coverage of the event
  • Cover Oregon22 events as paid SOJC Track Bureau reporters
  • Participate in new courses and programs at the undergraduate and graduate level focused on sports media, communication, and strategy
