Support UO Students Working in Unpaid Internships

The job market after college is becoming more and more competitive. We want our Duck graduates to stand out from the crowd! One way for students to gain an advantage in the job search is to complete an internship experience. Internships offer students opportunities to explore and clarify career goals, apply academic learning, enhance and learn new skills, gain experience, and network with professionals.

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), we know that nationally:

  • Just over 70% of employers end up offering full-time jobs to their interns. Almost 80% of students accept these offers.
  • Students who have done an internship are 15% less likely to be unemployed in the first years after college and earn 6% more than students who did not.

Unfortunately, not all of our students can afford to participate in an internship—especially if it’s an unpaid internship in areas like government or nonprofits that traditionally aren’t able to offer compensation. Seeing this gap, the Davidson-Wilmot family established a fund to help make the internship process more equitable and accessible for students. This fund assists undergraduate students, regardless of major, with expenses while in an unpaid internship for credit. Having this support means our students can gain work experience without going in debt to pay for rent, food, utilities and even travel to/from the internship.

Your gift to the Davidson & Wilmot Internship Fund during Ducks Give can help ensure UO students get the support they need to participate in meaningful internships that prepare them for their professional careers.
