Invest in Native American (American Indian/Alaska Native) Student Success at UO

Many Nations Longhouse is a home away from home for Native American (American Indian/Alaska Native) students where they can find community and connect with academic, cultural, and social resources.

Your gift in support of the Many Nations Longhouse is an investment in the continued success of Native American (American Indian/Alaska Native) students at the University of Oregon, funding initiatives that increase the recruitment, retention, and graduation of Native American (American Indian/Alaska Native) students while nurturing a sense of belonging and community.

The Many Nations Longhouse hosts student centered activities and cultural programming including:

  • Culture Nights (Thursdays throughout the academic year)
  • Indigenous People’s Day (October)
  • Native American Heritage Month (November)
  • Storytelling Night and traditional meal (Winter term)
  • Indigenous People’s Reception and traditional meal (February/March)
  • Mother’s Day Pow wow and Salmon Bake (May)
  • Native Graduation and traditional meal (June)

Opportunities to support the Many Nations Longhouse’s efforts to support and provide resources for Native American (American Indian/Alaska Native) students include the following:

  • Sponsor Student Success Kits for Students
    • $20 per kit, $100 for five kits
      Scantrons and educational materials for students
  • Many Nations Longhouse Library
    • $50 need is unlimited
      Native American (American Indian/Alaskan Native) historical and cultural literature.
  • Cultural, Beading, and Regalia Workshops
    • $100/per participant
    • The Many Nations Longhouse in partnership with the Native American Student Union and Native American Law Student Association hosts cultural, beading, and regalia making workshops for students.
  • Many Nations Longhouse Pantry
    • $250/week, $2,500+/term – Any contribution is appreciated
    • The Many Nations Longhouse has a food pantry available to students. We regularly replenish healthy food options for our students (vegan and gluten free options always included).
  • Culture Night Dinners
    • $1300/dinner, $2600/one month of dinners (1st and 3rd Thursday)
    • Every Thursday we share a community meal and serve 50+ students and community. We learn from each other about Native American (American Indian/Alaskan Native) culture and heritage.
  • Many Nations Longhouse Fire Pit
    • $500 - $750/annual cost
    • Maintenance, wood, and materials for traditional salmon bakes.
  • Hood and Range Annual Cleaning and General Maintenance
    • $1,000/yearly cost
    • The Many Nations Longhouse uses the stove/oven to cook traditional meals for weekly cultural meals, events throughout the year.
  • Hosting Traditional Cooked Meals
    • $1,000 – $2,500
    • We host traditional cooks from throughout Oregon who share their joys of cooking with our students and community. The Many Nations Longhouse is honored to host traditional meals for our students and community.
  • Native American (American Indian/Alaskan Native) Indigenous People’s Day Celebration
    • $2,200 (flag costs)
    • Each October, the Native American Student Union host a reception at the EMU Amphitheater. Native American tribal members and community members share their commitment to honoring those who have come before them and protecting our mother earth and future generations. The nine Oregon Tribal Flags are raise to fly proudly on campus all year.
  • Winter Storytelling Cultural Event
    • $5,000 (covers the cost for honorariums for Native American Storytellers, community traditional dinner, and student employees)
    • Traditional storytelling has passed down through tribal communities for generations. It is an integral part of Indigenous culture to teach lessons, record history, and to entertain our communities. The Many Nations Longhouse is honored to hold Storytelling events to share these important lessons with our students, families, and community.
  • Native American (American Indian/Alaskan Native) Graduation Celebration
    • $5,000 (traditional meal and graduation costs) + $5,000 honor blankets for Native Graduates
    • Each June we celebrate our graduating students (bachelors, masters, and doctoral candidates), we host their families and our community, share a traditional meal and a video presentation.
